PENTA is the interactive pavilion designed and constructed at USC campus, architecture courtyard, by 11 students from the second-year material studio, for the 100th year anniversary of USC School of Architecture. The design explored the materiality and construction of wood and steel. The canopy is created by the aggregation of pentagon units constructed through glue-lam and finger joint. The mylar cones extruded from the canopy cast light to create a more dynamic shadow. The whole pavilion is supported by meticulously constructed steel structure, trying to create the most efficient and lightweight structure to support the canopy.
